On Assignment in Tuscany
If you’ve read a bit about my background, you know I’ve worked as a commercial photographer for over 45 years. That career has taken me around the globe, and this image is from one of those international assignments.
Capturing Timeless Geometry in the Mugello
This was my third shoot in Europe for McArthur Glen, Europe’s largest developer of designer outlet centers. On this occasion, we traveled to the Barberino Designer Outlet, about 45 minutes north of Florence in the Mugello—a valley rich with Tuscan history and beauty. What made this location especially unique is that the River Sieve flows directly through the center of the complex.
When Color Steps Aside for Form
Throughout the day, I documented life and architecture in the centre (European spelling, of course!), capturing a range of visuals. The buildings are painted in soft Tuscan pastels, but when I looked at this particular frame, it practically begged to be seen in black and white. Doing so emphasized the graceful geometry and rhythmic arches, giving the image a timeless elegance.
A Rare Retail Space Built with Heart
What sets Barberino apart is its architecture—designed with a level of care rarely seen in retail spaces. This image celebrates that thoughtfulness in structure and form.
