During that week in Maine, we made a predawn drive up Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park to catch the sunrise—an experience that gave me the image Ring of Light, which you can find elsewhere in this gallery.
After the early light show, we spent the rest of the morning exploring. I captured a favorite black and white waterfall image, and then came across this quieter scene—a patch of wild autumn grasses glowing in the sunlight. The backlight caught every fine strand and blade, revealing an incredible range of texture and warm tones.
Here Is What Drew Me In
What drew me in was the interplay of gold, orange, and yellow, offset by little surprises of green tucked within. It wasn’t a grand vista, but it said “autumn” loud and clear. This is the kind of image that celebrates seasonal change through subtle detail, and one I keep coming back to for its richness and sense of place.
