Autumn Tapestry
Autumn Tapestry
West Virginia
A dense carpet of fallen leaves forms a natural tapestry of color and texture.
This photograph was made during a late-October assignment in West Virginia, when the hills were deep in peak autumn color. After a day spent photographing industrial sites framed by brilliant foliage, I pulled off the road hoping to capture a wide landscape before heading back to the hotel.
Before setting up the camera, I happened to look down.
Beneath my feet was this quiet arrangement of fallen leaves — reds, golds, ochres, and browns layered together into a richly textured pattern. The overcast light softened the scene, allowing the subtle variations of color and surface detail to emerge without harsh shadow.
Rather than a sweeping landscape, the photograph became a study in the dense, intricate beauty of autumn itself.
Sometimes the smallest scenes hold the most color.
Particularly striking when produced as an ultraHD aluminum-mounted print.
