One Frame, A Thousand Colors
I was in West Virginia on assignment for an energy company, photographing their drilling and storage sites. It was late October, which meant I was lucky enough to be working during peak fall color season—one of my favorite times of year.
After a productive day of capturing sunlit scenes of equipment and personnel framed by vibrant trees, I was winding my way back to the hotel when something caught my eye. I had planned to stop for a wide shot to add to my personal files, but just before I set up, I looked down and saw this unexpected little collage of color.
A pile of fallen leaves, mashed together under a quiet overcast sky, created a natural tapestry of reds, yellows, browns, and oranges. And somehow, despite only taking a single frame of it, everything lined up—the textures, the tones, and the focus.
I’m so glad I didn’t miss it.
