This image came together late in the fall as we worked our way along a rocky stream in Maine. I came across this moss-covered outcropping, with three golden leaves clinging to its textured surface—just inches above the rushing water. They felt like autumn’s final survivors—the last fragile remnants of the season.
Moss, Texture, and Autumn Color
The contrast between the rich greens of the moss and lichens and the warm amber hues of the leaves immediately caught my attention. I knew a long exposure would soften the movement of the stream into a silky blur, wrapping the rock in quiet energy and calm.
A Moment Crafted with Intention
So yes, out came the tripod. And… did I nudge a leaf or two to perfect the composition?
