A shaft of sunlight reveals the exposed roots of an ancient tree along the forest floor
While exploring near a quiet lake in Maine, a brief break in the clouds sent a beam of light through the canopy. The light fell directly across the gnarled roots of a massive tree, illuminating their intricate structure as they stretched across the ground toward the base of the trunk.
The scene became a study in texture and form — twisting roots, weathered bark, fallen leaves, and patches of moss layered across the forest floor.
The roots themselves create a natural composition, guiding the eye through the frame and anchoring the image in the quiet strength of the tree above.
Moments like this are fleeting. Within seconds the light shifted again, and the forest returned to shadow.
