The cowboys name is Josh, and unfortunately I don’t know the name of his ‘best friend,” but even a non-rider like myself can see and appreciate the bond between the two.
We were in the stables, and my main goal was to get a portrait of Josh. The first bunch of images were indeed of him alone. Half-length, closeup, turning right, turning left, leaning against a post, etc. But then, his horse, who was just to his left, started coming into frame, wanting to see what was going on.
There were a few with Josh behind the horse, who was out of focus in the foreground. And then the horse moved over towards him, into frame and into focus.
And then….
Then this happened. A tender moment between the two. I could not have scripted it any better. A photo that totally captures the bond that man and animal share. And the fact that Josh’s eyes are hidden, well, I could not have wished for more.
