Boat Bow — Isle of Islay Coastal Fine Art Photography

I made this photograph shortly after arriving on the Isle of Islay, where I noticed a weathered wooden boat resting in dry dock near the harbor at Port Askaig.
What drew me in was the interplay of color, texture, and line. Thick ropes drape across the bow, worn paint reveals layers of rust and wood beneath, and the angled structure creates a strong, graphic composition.
The scene felt both maritime and almost abstract—a study of working materials shaped by years of sea air and use.
Photographed on Kodachrome, the image retains a richness of color that renders the warm tones of aged wood against the cooler maritime blues with depth and subtlety.
