Black Angus Bull in Fog – Award-Winning Texas Ranch Photography
A Morning of Mist and Muscle
This award-winning black and white image was made on a foggy winter morning at 44 Farms in Cameron, Texas. I’d been photographing this legendary Angus ranch since 2007, ever since I met Bob McClaren—former president of the Houston Astros and now head of one of the top Angus breeding operations in the country.
Capturing Stillness and Strength
During their February sale event, I used a 70–200mm lens to isolate this lone Black Angus bull standing calm and composed in the mist. The contrast between his muscular black form and the soft, diffuse fog gave the scene a stark, almost mythic quality.
A Surreal Silhouette
He stood just slightly turned, creating the optical illusion of having only three legs. That small detail added something quietly surreal—like a sculpture revealed by the weather. The winding roads and leafless trees behind him only emphasized his quiet power.
