Tribune Tower and Flag — Chicago
Chicago’s summer skies can be astonishingly clear. On certain afternoons the blue seems almost luminous, intensified by the light reflecting off Lake Michigan and the open sweep of the Midwestern horizon.
Light and Symbol Above the City
On this particular afternoon the American flag atop Tribune Tower caught the late sunlight, its movement set against a deep blue sky. The warm light illuminated the intricate Gothic detailing of the tower while the flag introduced a burst of color and motion above the city.
A Moment of Color and Architecture
Photographs like this often begin with a simple upward glance. In that moment the elements aligned—architecture, color, light, and movement—creating a small but memorable fragment of Chicago’s skyline.
