Light and Geometry in Chicago
I was walking through downtown Chicago on a clear summer afternoon when this composition suddenly revealed itself above the street. Chicago’s architecture is legendary, but occasionally a building stops being architecture and becomes something else entirely—pure form and color.
When Structure Becomes Abstraction
Late afternoon light struck the facade at just the right angle, washing the structure in warm gold while architectural lighting climbed along the vertical buttresses. At the same moment, the deep blue of the summer sky reflected in the windows, introducing a cool counterpoint to the warm tones of the stone.
For a brief moment the building stopped reading as a building at all.
It became a graphic arrangement of planes, color, and light.
That fleeting transformation—from architecture to abstraction—is what caught my eye.
