I was wandering through downtown Chicago on a perfect summer afternoon, camera in hand, and feeling that electric sense of possibility—like photographs were just waiting to be discovered on every block. Chicago architecture is the stuff of legends, and I was immersed in it.
This scene stopped me in my tracks.
Light, Geometry, and Serendipity
I honestly couldn’t tell you the name of the building (though I’ve vowed to find out on my next visit). But I didn’t need to know its name to recognize the beauty in front of me.
The late afternoon sun hit one side of the structure at just the right angle, casting rich yellow tones across its geometric form. Architectural lighting washed up along the buttresses, adding drama. And then—perfectly—the deep blue of the summer sky reflected in the windows, contrasting against the warm tones and turning the entire scene into a living graphic.
Sometimes, all you need to do is look.
