Chicago Theatre – A Midwest Icon
Another image from my Holga series—this photograph captures the iconic marquee of The Chicago Theatre, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Built in 1921, the theatre began as a grand movie palace and now serves as a 3,600-seat venue for concerts, comedy, lectures, and other live performances.
A Symbol Woven into Chicago’s Cultural Identity
The bold vertical sign of The Chicago Theatre has become an unofficial emblem of the city, featured in countless films, television shows, and artistic works over the decades. It’s one of those rare structures that seems to embody the spirit of Chicago—historic, resilient, and visually unforgettable.
Created with My Holga and a Nostalgic Palette
As with my other Holga photographs, I shot this on black-and-white film, then scanned it in RGB color space to allow for a subtle wash of nostalgic color—a palette I like to call sepia-adjacent. It complements the building’s vintage character beautifully.
