Corporate Gothic-Chicago Spires
Chicago, Illinois
As I walked through Chicago’s Loop on a clear June afternoon, I found myself drawn to an unexpected alignment of towers framed by light and shadow. The stepped progression of buildings leads naturally toward the distinctive spire of Two Prudential Plaza, creating a composition that felt both modern and timeless.
What struck me most was the resemblance to the great Gothic cathedrals of Europe. The vertical lines, dramatic contrast, and soaring pinnacle evoke a similar sense of monumentality, though these structures were built to serve commerce rather than faith.
By presenting the scene in black and white, I sought to emphasize its graphic structure and architectural rhythm, allowing form, light, and shadow to become the primary subjects.
