From a Window
From a Window
I was in London for a couple of days, and had spent a lot of time on Friday night wandering around the East End, along The Thames, and that sojourn resulted in a couple of other photos in this gallery, “Tate Modern” and "Millennium Bridge."
Saturday morning I left my hotel in Mayfair and headed through Green Park, where I saw the image that became “Tulip Riot.” I circled around southwest, down King’s Road, and back up past The Royal Albert Monument in Hyde Park. All with a pack full of gear slung across my back. I finally found myself walking past The London Hilton, and cutting through on Market Mews, past the townhome of famed race car driver Stirling Moss as I returned to my hotel on Half Moon Street. At that time it was The Hilton Green Park, but it is now The Mayfair Townhouse, a 5-star hotel.
As I decompressed in my room in the backside of the hotel (away from street noise), I opened a window to get some late afternoon breeze into the room. And as I sat back and looked at the window, this is what I saw. The late afternoon light, about to turn in to the golden hour, illuminating the sash and the lace curtains. Inviting me to take a look at what was outside. A perfect example of “seeing the light.” And of having a photo right in front of you.
So, with apologies to Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas (if you’re old enough you’ll get it), “From A Window.”
This image was selected for the 2024 “All About The Light” Exhibition at The Southeast Center for Photography in Greenville, SC., and again in The Texas Photographic Society "TPS 32: The International Competition."
