Lone Horse, Wyoming
Lone Horse, Wyoming
I was on my first trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, as Sharon brought me along for her annual summer series of gigs associated with an orchestra and the Grand Teton Music Festival. She had been going for a number of years and loved to explore both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, as well as the surrounding areas.
That afternoon, we headed east off US Route 26, as she wanted to tell me all about Slide Lake and the Gros Ventre Landslide of 1925. We continued past the Slide Lake area and found ourselves on Gros Ventre Road, heading southeast. We came across this scene at a beautiful farm, located right before and on the opposite side of the road from the starting point of The Lavender Hills Hiking Trail.
The composition practically dictated itself through the lens. The lone horse, the curve and then straight line of the fencing, the verdant green of the pasture contrasting with the incredible purple hues in the background foliage, and the overcast sky that rendered everything in soft, saturating light.
You’ll find another image from this same trip in “Thunderstorm, Wyoming.”
