Pure Texas: Ranch Foreman at Golden Hour
It was late in the day, and we were finishing up a long, hot shoot at 44 Farms near Cameron, Texas—one of the most respected Angus ranching operations in the country.
Cinematic Light in the Golden Grass
The sun was beginning to drop, casting that warm, cinematic light photographers dream about. Off in the distance, the ranch foreman was horseback in a sea of golden grass, checking on a herd that had just been moved.
The Perfect Moment of Rim Light
I tracked him through the long lens as he made his slow sweep of the pasture. And then—just for a moment—he turned slightly toward the west. The low sun struck his left side with a perfect edge of rim light, illuminating him like a figure in a Western painting. I hit the shutter.
Timeless Processing for Timeless Subject
While the original color version worked just fine, I felt the scene called for something timeless. A slight sepia-toned black and white conversion gave the image a quiet, classic strength. In many ways, it became an homage to the generations of Texas cattlemen who came before—many of them ancestors of the current ranch owners, who've been on this land for over a century.
Honest and Enduring Heritage
Pure Texas. Honest. Enduring.
This image captures more than just a moment in time—it's a portrait of continuity, of traditions passed down through generations, and of the enduring spirit that defines Texas ranch life.
