A Quieter View Beyond the Crowd
This was my first trip to Wyoming with Sharon, and she gave me the grand tour in true epic fashion. We had spent the night in Cody and entered Yellowstone via the breathtaking Beartooth Highway, a route so high and winding that we often found ourselves driving through clouds.
At Artist’s Point, we paused for the classic view of the Yellowstone River and its powerful falls. But I wandered just a bit beyond the crowd and discovered something quieter, more personal—a lone tree rising defiantly from the rocks. It stood like a sentinel, shaped by time and wind, backlit by the golden late-afternoon sun.
Light, Texture, and Timelessness
The light bounced off the rock face near my feet, naturally illuminating the tree’s trunk and the orange outcropping beneath it like nature’s own reflector.
The color harmony struck me instantly: the green-gold of the foliage glowing against the blue haze of the canyon, and the subtle peek of the Lower Falls in the distance. Every element was in place—form, light, color, texture, and a quiet sense of permanence.
This is one of those images that just works—for me at least. See what it stirs in you.
