Lone Tree, Yellowstone
Lone Tree, Yellowstone
This was my first trip to Wyoming with Sharon, and she was giving me the grand tour. We had spent the night in Cody, and driven into Yellowstone along The Beartooth Highway, and sometimes found ourselves in the clouds.
We got to Artist’s Point, with a great view of the Yellowstone River and the falls. But moving a little away from the crowd, I found this lone tree, proudly emerging through the rocks like a sole survivor. The late afternoon sun brilliantly backlit the tree, and the reflections off the rocks to the left, below my feet, acted as a reflector on the outcropping below the tree. The green/yellow of the tree, in sharp focus against the soft background, the orange of the rock, with the blue haze of the canyon and the teasing peak of the top of the lower falls in the distance give a depth and brilliance that just works for me. See what you think.
