Another image from our most recent time in New England—this one is from New Hampshire.
Driving along Route 302, we stopped at several points to explore and enjoy the scenery as we were headed home in several hours, back to the warmer climes of Texas.
I came upon this wall of trees, the white trunks of the birch trees punctuated by subtle spots and splashes of color. While most of the trunks were vertical, as you would expect, there were two outliers. Seemingly leaning in tandem, apart from the rest, their gentle lean contrasted with all the others. It made me think they had done this on purpose, as if saying, “We’ll do what we want to do, thank you very much!” To me, they are partners, two against the world, in the soft color world of a New England autumn.
