A Saturday morning in Hyde Park, London—the same morning that gave me “Still Kickin’” in the B&W galleries.
In contrast to that high-energy capture of physical exertion, this image is the exact opposite: taking it easy on a park bench, reading the morning papers.
The long lens sharpens them and sets them apart from the softer background, and the soft sunlight, filtering down through the dissipating morning fog, breaks over their heads and shoulders, further helping them stand out.
So what’s the story? Are they a couple? They’re sitting close enough together on the bench that I think they are, but I don’t really know.
It’s just a captured moment in time in one of my favorite places on earth.
In the famous words of Samuel Johnson: “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life, for there is in London all that life can afford.”
