As you may have read on my “About” page, I am an amateur musician and have worked with a number of professionals in my area on their photos.
One of these people, Jack Saunders, is also an accomplished studio engineer and producer (we worked extensively with Jack on our most recent music project). He put me in touch with a local Texas singer-songwriter who was working on a new CD project.
We decided to schedule a shoot for a late September afternoon at his home in Magnolia, northwest of Houston. I drove out, and we tried some shots around his house and with a classic Mustang automobile that he owns. As the late afternoon sun set behind the trees in his heavily wooded acreage, I packed up my cameras and headed home.
As luck would have it, anticipating that I might need it for his shoot, I had packed my 300mm lens, which is my most expensive but least used lens. On my way back east on Texas 1488, I looked to my right and saw a gigantic thunderhead billowing up in the “Golden Hour” sun! I managed to turn almost immediately into a Home Depot parking lot, unpack the camera, lens, and tripod, and capture some shots before the light faded and the clouds lost their majesty.
One of my most popular images, it has been accepted into several exhibits, notably The A Smith Gallery’s “Light” 2023 Exhibit, and was one of the 27 images selected from the exhibit for their book highlighting the show. It was also accepted into the Southeast Center for Photography’s “Light” Exhibition in 2020, The Texas Photographic Society’s Member’s Show in 2019, and APA Los Angeles’ “Off The Clock” Show in 2023. A large print of it is on display at the new Loews Arlington Hotel & Convention Center near the ballparks in Arlington, Texas
