Water & Reeds – A Quiet Moment in Acadia National Park – Fine Art Black and White Print by Michael Hart
A Scene Discovered, Not Sought
We’d risen at 4 AM to catch the sunrise from the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the first place in the United States where the sun touches the land. After the sun lifted over the Atlantic, we drifted down winding roads through Acadia National Park, stopping when something called to us—a hidden waterfall here, golden autumn grasses there.
This quiet scene of water and reeds was one of those moments. I couldn’t tell you the exact bend in the road or pull-off where I saw it—but that doesn’t matter. What mattered was the stillness, the simplicity, and the way the soft morning light played on the surface of the water.
Found Light, Framed Silence
The camera didn’t need to be coaxed. The lines, the textures, the tones—they were already there, waiting. A painterly composition of reeds emerging from mirrored water, rendered in black and white to let form and contrast do all the speaking.
And does that remind you of a "heart?"
This image has quietly held its own in several exhibitions....
