West Virginia Autumn

West Virginia Autumn

Autumn is a recurring theme for me. Growing up in Northern Indiana, we truly experienced the season. The air would turn cool and crisp, and the leaves would change color. We drank apple cider and raked the fallen leaves into piles to run and jump into. Back in the day, we could even pile them in the gutters and burn them. The smell of burning leaves is something I still long to experience again, EPA regulations be damned!

Since we don’t have a true autumn here in Houston, I experience it vicariously through photos I’ve taken in places that do, such as this image from West Virginia. I was there on an industrial assignment for a small independent energy company and captured beautiful images of their personnel on drill sites and at tank farms, surrounded by the vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges of the season.

On the way to my motel one evening, I managed to pull down a side road and explore a little while it was still light. My efforts yielded a view of a rolling patch of verdant green, surrounded by the blazing colors I had hoped to find.

I was a happy camper.
