Window Shopping — Florence, Italy
Window Shopping — Florence, Italy
Florence, Italy
On a narrow street in Florence, a passerby pauses in front of a glowing jewelry window. The warm interior light spills onto the stone facade, creating a quiet stage for an ordinary moment of curiosity and reflection.
I was in Florence on assignment photographing Palazzo Tornabuoni, a 15th-century structure that was being transformed into luxury residences. My work there also allowed time to wander the surrounding streets, camera in hand, absorbing the rhythms of the city.
One evening, walking just outside the palazzo, I noticed the storefront across the street. The warm orange glow of the interior lighting echoed the color of the Florentine stone façade, while an exterior light fixture with a maroon globe added a striking accent.
As I watched the scene, a solitary figure entered the frame. He paused in front of the window display, his down vest echoing the color of the globe above him. Then he tilted his head slightly as if considering the objects inside.
I couldn’t have directed the moment better myself.
Window shopping in Florence—how chic.
