Interval
Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco
A solitary sailboat passes beneath the span of the Golden Gate Bridge, suspended between water and structure. Rendered in black and white, the composition emphasizes proportion, alignment, and atmosphere rather than color.
Photographed on the same day as Walkin’ the Dog, this frame remained unseen for years before its structural precision became clear. The arc of the suspension cables leads toward the north tower, anchoring the composition against the softened horizon of Marin. A horizontal band of cloud interrupts the sky, introducing quiet tension above the bridge deck
The sailboat’s mast aligns briefly with the underside of the roadway — a moment of balance within scale. In monochrome, the scene resolves into form and contrast: bridge, water, vessel, and sky held in measured relation.
